“Evil is a completely different creature, Mac. Evil is bad that believes it’s good.”
MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister, Alina, were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever.
Twenty years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled them to hunt her sister’s murderer. But after discovering that she descends from a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an ancient conflict between humans and immortals who have lived concealed among us for thousands of years.
What follows is a shocking chain of events with devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief while continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh—a book of dark, forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King, containing the power to create and destroy worlds.
In an epic battle between humans and Fae, the hunter becomes the hunted when the Sinsar Dubh turns on Mac and begins mowing a deadly path through those she loves.
Who can she turn to? Who can she trust? Who is the woman haunting her dreams? More important, who is Mac herself and what is the destiny she glimpses in the black and crimson designs of an ancient tarot card?
From the luxury of the Lord Master’s penthouse to the sordid depths of an Unseelie nightclub, from the erotic bed of her lover to the terrifying bed of the Unseelie King, Mac’s journey will force her to face the truth of her exile, and to make a choice that will either save the world . . . or destroy it.
(synopsis taken from author's website)
Shadowfever is book 5 in the Fever series and picks up right where Dreamfever (book 4) left off. I wanted to do nothing more than gush over this book, but realized that I would end up giving too much away. I feel that Shadowfever needs to be experienced only by the reader, so this review is spoiler free.
I have to admit, I read the first 2 chapters that were posted to KMM’s site before the book was released. I just couldn’t resist the call to read it. I was already obsessed with the urge to read Shadowfever and those 2 chapters took me right to edge of insanity. I couldn’t wait to dive into reading the book and dive I did and let me tell you...that it absolutely took my breath away. Karen Marie Moning has the gift of making her readers feel as if they are right there in the book.
It is absolutely Epic! Shadowfever is packed with 608 pages of absolute goodness. All of the questions that were in the past 4 books are finally answered in it and Karen Marie Moning did an excellent job at giving her readers exactly what they wanted. There were so many twists and turns that I was absolutely exhausted physically and emotionally after reading this book. That can be a good or a bad thing. Good because I like to be taken to the edge. Bad because even though the book was long, I still craved more.
As much as I loved the book, I felt as if it did have some faults. There were times when it was too wordy and I wish that the storyline would have moved along faster. There were a couple of questions that were not fully answered and the start of some new ones. I only hope the purpose for this is that Karen Marie Moning plans on answering them in the future. In the very near future I hope. LOL!
I loved this book and I don't think I can say it enough. There will never be another book like Shadowfever for me. I was obsessed for it's release and was satisfied with the result. I still want more, but that's the book addict in me. It was exciting and thrilling. There were some parts that were so intense for me, that I had to put my Kindle down and walk away from it. I felt complete joy while reading as well as anguish, frustration, and confusion. For me, that is a sign of a great book. I like to experience different emotions while reading and I experienced the whole emotion spectrum with this book. Even though the book had it's issues, it didn't bother me in the slightest because it didn't take away from the storyline which I thought was the ultimate reason for rating it a 5.
The Fever series is my favorite series because there are so many unpredictable things that happen in it. The characters are one of a kind and the storyline will have you wanting more. If you haven't read it yet, you are missing out on a good thing!
Good luck!

I'm a follower and I would love to win. If you like the Fever series so well you should try the Georgina Kincaid series by Richelle Mead. It is an urban fantasy series that stirs up all the emotions, but you love it! I threw one book across the room, but I got dressed and started to leave and my husband said where are you going. I said to get the next book. He said you just threw the last one across the room. I'm like I know but I need more! That series is why I bought a Kindle. I didn't want to have to search for a book again. Have a nice weekend.
