After a tragic stint in the National Guards, Adam Connelly returns to Idaho and to Belle Haven, the animal shelter he owns with his brothers. All Adam wants is to be alone. Then he opens the door to the past—the woman whose heart he once broke. Still gorgeous, still tough-as-nails, but this time, unusually vulnerable.

Holly Reid learned the hard way to never depend on a man for anything. Now, of all men, it’s the last one she wants to see, and the only one she needs. Her father has gone missing in the Bitterroot Mountains and she could use someone with tracking skills to help find him.

For Holly and Adam, each with their ghosts, a trek this desperate, this unpredictable, and this intimate, will have its share of risks—including opening their hearts one more time.
Holly Reid knows that Adam Connelly is her only hope of finding her father.  He's gone hiking and she's not heard from him for days.  Adam is a great tracker and when she learns that a bad storm is about to roll in, she asks Adam for help in finding her father.  He agrees to help her but only the condition that he goes alone.  Holly wants to be there when he finds her father and finds a way to join Adam on the trip.  During the trip they have the opportunity to catch up with what has been going on in each others lives.  They also talk about their past and what happened between the two of them.  The feelings that they once felt about each other hasn't gone away despite the fact that they have both moved on with their lives.

Adam's character is a serious one and in his book we get to learn more about how his past shaped the man that he became.  I knew that his book was going to interesting because of getting to know him better.  I always find characters like this have a story to tell and Jill Shalvis does a great job of writing it.  His past may have started out rough but he did his best to ensure that he became a responsible adult.  Holly can see that now and understand why their relationship didn't work in the past.   She's been very unhappy with what has happened in her life and the trip that she takes with Adam makes her feel how she once felt with him.  They give into those feelings and I couldn't wait.  I think that Jill Shalvis writes hot love scenes that also had a tender touch to them.  Along with interesting and entertaining characters, it's no surprise that she's my favorite contemporary romance writer.

I'm giving Rescue My Heart a rating of:
Photobucket

Second chances was the main focus of what Rescue My Heart was all about.  Holly finally realized what was missing in her life and that was Adam.  It was great seeing all the characters from the previous books again.  I love how they have all come together and formed a family of sorts that can rely on each other for support.
