Author Q&A & Giveaway: Samantha Kane

I'd like to welcome author Samantha Kane to the blog!

You have a new series with the LoveSwept imprint.  The Saint's Devils. Tell us what this series is about.

The series name, The Saint's Devils, is the nickname given by society to a group of rakes who have been friends since their school days. Their unofficial leader is Sir Hilary St. John, a hedonistic Sherlock Holmes type character who is brilliant and mysterious. He's always involved in some secretive inquiry for mysterious clients. In each book he'll help the heroes solve a mystery involving their heroine. In The Devil's Thief, he helps the hero, Alasdair Sharp, retrieve his stolen pearl and catch the thief.

How did you come up with the idea for the series and how are will the books be connected?

I had a vague idea about an erotic series in which young women had to steal from gentlemen to keep their school open. Then I saw Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey, Jr. and it inspired the Sir Hilary St. John character. I melded the two ideas and it became a non-erotic series about a group of rakes who need help solving mysteries from their old friend St. John.

Book 1 in the series is titled The Devil's Thief and the character of Julianna is desperate to find a way to save something that she cares dearly for. Besides her obvious beauty, what else attracted Alasdair to her character?

She's very cheeky. lol He's used to obsequious ladies who enjoy his company because he's a scoundrel with a reputation, he's wealthy, he possesses a famous pearl, and he's devilishly handsome. Then along comes this little thief and she dares to bargain with him after being caught, she's mysterious, and then she disappears and has the gall to actually steal his pearl. He's not used to women like her. And then when he finds her again and she turns out not to be at all what he expected his whole world is turned upside down. She's a confusing combination of innocence and duplicity and passion that keeps him guessing all the time what she's going to do next.

What is it about Historical Romance that made you want to write something within that genre?

I love to read historical romance, it's always been my favorite. I think because there's an element of fantasy to it that appeals to me. The language, the clothing, the setting are all very romanticized. I have a Master's degree in history, so I've always loved it. I like to play there. I actually like to take people or scenarios that as an historian I know never would have happened and put them in an historical context and make them work.

Do you have any releases coming out in the near future?

Of course, The Devil's Thief will be out on November 12. And I have a new Brothers in Arms short story out right now, Love and War: The Beginning. In the next few months I'll be releasing a new Brothers in Arms novella, Love Betrayed: The Prologue, and next year a Brothers in Arms novel, Love Betrayed. In July, 2013, the second book in The Saint's Devils will be released, Tempting a Devil, which is Roger Templeton's story.

The daughter of a reformed jewel thief, Julianna Harte knows a thing or two about stealth. When the foundling home she provides for finds itself in dire financial straits, Julianna is forced to do the unthinkable. In a bit of misguided Robin Hood derring-do, she slips through the window of a wealthy rake to search for a treasure she knows is there: an invaluable pearl. But when the towering and very naked occupant of the moonlit bedroom ambushes her with a bargain—a night in his bed in exchange for the pearl—Julianna doesn’t know if it’s masculine heat or sheer desperation that makes his terms so tempting.

Alasdair Sharpe had no intention of keeping his end of the bargain. Planning to offer his little cat burglar carte blanche instead, he promptly loses himself in the delights of unexpected pleasure. But when he awakes the next morning to find his family heirloom gone, fury quickly replaces sensual languor. Of course, Alasdair is more than willing to use seduction to reclaim his stolen pearl—and find the key to Julianna’s heart.
I have 1 print copy of The Devil's Thief to giveaway!  Open to US only.  Leave email in comment if entering.  Giveaway ends 11/17/12 12PM EST. Good luck!
