Guest Post & Giveaway: Moira Rogers

Hello there!  I’m Bree, one half of the paranormal romance writing duo of Moira Rogers, and I’m on a wild and crazy blog tour talking about dangerous men and the women who love them. And I’m not just talking about their heroines—I mean all the women who love them, including those of us who read & write about them!  That’s why I’m here with an excerpt from Keeping Company With Bloodhounds, a book that gives all the dirty details about those dangerous warriors. (Even if it only exists in the fictional world of the Bloodhounds.)

One thing that has been true since the beginning of the Bloodhounds series is that all of the heroines stand outside of acceptable society in some way.  They're apprentice inventors, grifters...even retired prostitutes.

When the heroes of your series essentially go into heat once a month thanks to botched 19th century genetic tampering (thanks, mad scientists!) sex will be an inevitable part of the world building.  The bloodhounds need a woman (or two) every month when the moon goes dark, which have resulted in a lot of brothels popping up over the course of the series.  If any of our hookers have hearts of gold, though, it's usually because they're shrewd enough to get paid in it.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN - BROTHELS: A BLOODHOUND'S SECOND HOME

When considering this chapter, it seemed only fitting that I provide an authentic--if occasionally coarse--discussion of the subject.  Throughout this Guide I have made reference to Sylvie Bellerose, a brothel madam whose credentials in dealing with Bloodhounds are unrivaled.  I have asked her to describe to you, in her own words, the enduring relationship between brothels and bloodhounds.

Sylvie writes:

There’s no creature more helpless than a bloodhound with the new moon upon him.  I’ve had many a woman attempt to argue this point with me by making reference to their superior physical strength and unflagging stamina, but those women mistake weakness for helplessness.

A bloodhound is never weak, least of all during those times when the new moon drives him to feats of stamina that would lay a human man out.  But the need that consumes him is unforgiving, and a bloodhound trapped without a willing, able partner is a bloodhound faced with certain torment.

That is the crux of the Guild’s arrangement with the brothels.  They pay us well to keep a girl or two available whenever the dark nights of the new moon approach, and pay us even better if a bloodhound arrives to partake of their charms.

This arrangement leaves a bloodhound confident of his reception, even if ill-luck has left him bereft of coin and stranded far from familiar territory. Every madam and working girl on the border knows they’ll be rewarded for seeing to a bloodhound in need...though those with a taste for the earthy side of pleasure might argue that the ride is reward enough.

If you ask me, the ride being reward enough only makes the coin that much sweeter.  But I’ve never been a romantic.  A hedonist, a harlot and a hell-bound heathen, perhaps, but never a romantic.

Archer's Lady
Book 3 in the Bloodhounds series
Author:  Moira Rogers
Publisher: Samhain
Release date:  7/3/12
She's looking for redemption. He doesn't believe in it.

Accused of betraying the Bloodhound Guild, Archer's only chance to regain the trust of his fellow hounds is to earn it--one dangerous job at a time. Crystal Springs may be the worst yet. The town has been deserted by all but the poor and the desperate, yet the vampires stalking the edges of the settlement haven't closed in for the kill. Question is, why?

Grace Linwood, professional liar, has been hiding under the guise of a border schoolteacher for so long, she's almost fallen for her own con. The frontier was supposed to be her chance at a respectable life, but now the cowardly part of her wants to flee. When Archer catches her considering a run for safety, she knows it's only a matter of time before he sees through her charade.

They become reluctant allies in the quest to uncover the mysteries of Crystal Springs, but every unraveled knot ties them closer together. They both know their pasts are too shattered to hope for a future--until their investigation uncovers a secret. One that could make betraying the Guild their only path to redemption.
Warning: Contains a partly reformed con-artist heroine with a bruised heart and a mostly retired bank-robbing hero with a weary soul. Also included: vampire schemes, mad scientist plots, an alarming amount of dirty talk and some borderline-criminal bedroom antics in an alternate Wild West.
