I've read Melissa's other works and liked them a lot, but I had a hard time with this book. I was unable to connect to any of the characters in this story. The characters felt one dimensional and the storyline just didn't do it for me. I felt that it was lacking substance and I need that in order to have a good reading experience. I did continue to read the book because I was curious about the incubus storyline and where it was heading, but it didn't excite me like I thought it would. I wanted more action when it came to the big showdown. I also wanted more romance between Kylie and Ryan. There relationship felt rushed at the beginning and was over with before you knew it. Kylie was falling under the spell of the incubus and pushed Ryan away which had them spending less time with one another. I also felt that Kylie and Ryan were meant to be all along. They were initially attracted to one another, but both settled for less because Jack got to her first and became her rock.
I have to say that Giving Up the Ghost was not for me, but it may be for you. Below is the KLB Virtual Journey Schedule so please stop by one of the other blogs on their date to see what they have to say.

It is so interesting - so far I have read reviews all over the place for this one - I guess we all have those subjective likes and okays when reading a story. I am reading one now that I know is not a bad story or poorly written, but I am forcing myself to finish it because I am like a dog with a bone and just want to find something that will hook me. Thanks for your efforts and sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am following the tour around the web. Interesting that you didn't like it. I think it sounds really intersting.
