NOTE: this is an ARC review that I obtained from NetGalley. I did not pay for the book, and I did not receive anything for this review.
I was really anxious to read Aeron's book because we have known for a while that someone or something has been watching him. He can sense when it is near but hasn't been able to establish what it is. We find out that it is Olivia who is an angel that is a demon assassin. She has been charged with the task of killing Aeron but can't bring herself to do it. She has been watching him and feels that even though he has a demon living inside of him he is a good person. She has also fallen in love with him and sacrifices all that she is in order to be with him. She becomes a fallen angel and truly loves Aeron because not only does she loose her wings to be with him, she is cast into hell and must climb out to get to him. Climbing out of hell proves to be a difficult task, but Olivia will do anything to get to Aeron. Aeron on the other hand doesn't welcome Olivia with open arms. He does everything he can to push her away at the beginning. But Olivia will not go. She soon gets to know the other Lords and women and the household and they all take a liking to her. Especially William but I'm not at all surprised about that. She even gets to hang around with my favorite Lord Gideon and they have a good old time getting drunk. Aeron starts to get used to the idea of Olivia being around and begins to understand all that she has done to get to him. He falls in love with her of course and realizes that they are meant to be together. Aeron and Olivia have both sacrificed so much for the ones that they love. I found that theme to be parallel in each of their stories.
I love that Gena made sure to include all the other Lords and the women living in the house. How they all manage to live in the fortress together without strangling each other is a miracle! We also get to read more about the randy William and it was so much fun. He is truly a unique character and I really hope he gets his own book because he is utterly fascinating! We get to see the Lords in action and some secrets are revealed. Aeron's right hand demon Legion makes an appearance and her storyline proved to be interesting and frustrating for me. I kind of wanted to strangle Legion by the end of the book. It almost felt like The Darkest Passion was a magic book because I just can't understand how I was able to read all of what I did within 384 pages! That my friends is proof that Gena Showalter is an excellent writer. And it's not because I'm obsessed with her! *looks at altar of Gena books and chants* (Gena, Gena, Gena)
I am going to give The Darkest Passion 4.5 Bells!
I enjoyed reading The Darkest Passion so much and I felt that it was the best book of the Lords of the Underworld Series so far! We'll have to see if that stands after I read the next book in the series The Darkest Lie. My favorite Lord, Gideon, will be front and center for that book and I promise not to be biased after reading it
If you haven't started this series yet, you are missing out on a great series! Now you'll have to excuse me, I've got some work to do. *turns back to altar and chanting* Gena, Gena, Gena!!
Oh I almost forgot! It's time for another giveaway. Gena has generously donated a copy of one of her books for each day of the celebration and she is going to sign it!!! Today's giveaway is for the 4th book in the Lords of the Underworld series THE DARKEST WHISPER!!!
Bound by the demon of Doubt, Sabin unintentionally destroys even the most confident of lovers. So the immortal warrior spends his time on the battlefield instead of the bedroom, victory his only concern until he meets Gwendolyn the Timid. One taste of the beautiful redhead, and he craves more.
Gwen, an immortal herself, always thought she'd fall for a kind human who wouldn't rouse her darker side. But when Sabin frees her from prison, battling their enemies for the claim to Pandora's box turns out to be nothing compared to the battle Sabin and Gwen will wage against love!
