Mika Walters is a normal-sized woman working in the not-so-normal world of New York fashion. As longtime assistant to uber-sexy photographer Alejandro Vega, she’s tired of being the girl in the background. Just once she wants Alejandro to look at her with the same smoldering look he gives to his willowy models and now she has her chance.

Stranded.

After a travel mishap where the rest of the crew and the models can’t make the remote island location shoot for another three days, Mika is taking her moment to catch Alejandro’s eye and put herself in front of his camera and if all goes to plan, his bed… at least until the real world catches up with them.

Alejandro doesn’t know what’s gotten into Mika. Maybe it’s the sand, maybe it’s the sun, but he doesn’t really care. All he knows is that he’s finally opened his eyes and is seeing her clearly for the first time as the smart, gorgeous and incredibly irresistible woman she is.

But why can’t she realize that what he’s feeling for her is not one of his usual one, well, three night stands. This is real. Real love, real passion.

What’s it going to take for him to prove to Mika that she’s the woman he wants? Now and forever.
Mika Walters takes her job very seriously as the assistant to one of the most popular fashion photographers in the business.  While working for Alejandro Vega she's learned so many things in the field of photography and dreams of spreading her wings one day and becoming a photographer herself.  Until then she's got to do her job while fighting her growing attraction to Alejandro.  She knows everything there is to know about him and that can be very difficult at times.  He's kind of a ladies man and while she doesn't agree with how he handles women sometimes, she can't stop fantasizing about him.  What Mika doesn't know is that Alejandro has been doing some fantasizing of his own.  Lately he's been seeing Mika in a whole new light because she's so different from the women he's used to being with.  She isn't afraid to tell him how she feels and loves to be challenged by her.  Being stuck on an island alone with Mika without the rest of the usual crew gives Alejandro the opportunity to finally let Mika know just how attracted he is to her.  She doesn't believe him at first because she feels that she doesn't measure up to models that constantly surround him.   What she doesn't know is that Alejandro thinks that she is beautiful just the way that she is and after spending a few days alone with him, she can finally see exactly how he sees her.  As a strong, intelligent, exciting, and loyal person who just so happens to have the qualities that he's been looking for.

Mika finally decides that she wants to give into her inner desires and what better place to do that than a lush, tropical island.  The author does a great job of describing the locations in the story which I felt added to the sexiness of the scenes.  The characters indulge in one another and soon find that keeping it all about sex is not as easy as they thought it would be.  They realize that being with each other would be something pleasant to experience all the time.  Their connection is strengthened as a result of their time together and once the rest of the crew land on the island, there is an intensity in the air that can't be ignored.  When Mika's future career plans are discussed, things get serious.  Alejandro realizes that the woman that has become his muse wants more when it comes to not only her career but for her heart as well.   I loved that his character was willing to lay it out on the line and let her know how he really felt about her.  He truly wants a serious relationship with her but is met with much reluctance when it came to them moving forward.  While I could understand why Mika was so guarded, I wanted her character to believe in Alejandro because he tried so hard to make her realize that she was the one for him.  This made it a little difficult for me to connect with her character sometimes while reading, but didn't distract me from the story which can and has happened with other books.

I'm giving Through the Lens at rating of:
Photobucket

Through the Lens is K.M Jackson's first release and I felt that she did an excellent job in conveying the characters feelings during the progression of their relationship.  Going after something you really want isn't easy sometimes and I think these characters really felt that it was worth it in the end.

  1. I'm glad I read this review - this sounds like a great book! It would be REALLY difficult to work with super skinny models all the time and not have a complex, that's for sure.

  2. Not entering the giveaway, but this one sounds a bit different, but I just don't know if I can get past the hero's name. (I'm weird like that)

  3. This book sounds great and there's something about the tropics that just makes everything seem more intense. I've spent lots of time on various islands in the tropics because I scuba dive. My favorite island is N. Sulawesi in Indonesia. It's just beautiful with great diving and friendly people.

  4. I think this is a great story about loving yourself and finding someone who loves you as you are. If I could visit an island, I would like to go to Hawaii!

  6. I am terrible with geography...as long as said island is deserted, has crystal blue water and no one would see my big ass except my other half. I don't care where it is!

    Thanks so much!
