I'm very excited to welcome back the writing team
of Katie Porter back to the blog again!
The Music of Hold ‘Em
By Katie Porter
Music is super-duper important to the whole Katie Porter writing experience. It seems to be part of how the two halves of the whole come together—nothing conveys a mood or a feeling quite the same way a song does. So Hold ’Em has quite the playlist, just like the rest of the “Vegas Top Guns” books.
And since Hold ‘Em is a full on, whips and chains sort of book, is it too cheesy for words to include Master and Servant by Depeche Mode? It is, you say? I imagine the song is a bit over used for any book that features a paddle used on a butt.
Too bad! You get Depeche Mode anyway:
Bwahahaha! (I have a fabulous evil laugh. It’s what comes of living a primarily online life. Lots of time to practice evil laughs. I also make LOLcats sometimes.)
But the thing is, Leah and Michael aren’t exactly the average couple from a BDSM romance. I mean, they’re not the only of their sort, but well, they’re at least a little special. Because Leah is the one wielding the slapper on Michael’s cute, toned, muscular ass. (He is still a fighter pilot, Alpha kind of guy who rides a motorcycle and is totally still a badass when compared to all the badass erotic romance heroes. He just happens to get a jones on for some pain. It’s an extra way of getting an adrenaline rush. And Leah is exactly the sort of normal girl, yet slightly mean chick he needs. So I bring you Florence + The Machine’s “Girl with One Eye”
It’s appropriate. (Plus I kind of adore Florence + The Machine. There’s at least one of her songs on all my play lists.)
But the thing is, Leah has been a hot mess in the previous Vegas Top Guns books. She drinks too much, dances on tabletops and flirts with incredibly inappropriate men. It’s a good time, right? It is for a chick who runs at full speed all the time. When you’re having to fight for your positions all the time, blowing off a little steam is absolutely mandatory. Naturally she can’t “Smoke a Little Smoke” since she’s in the Air Force, but otherwise she’s totally on board with Eric Church’s song:
By the time Hold Em starts, Leah’s trying to get her act together, but that just means she needs a new outlet: Michael. The man she didn’t know she was waiting for, and the activities she didn’t know she craved. Answer the question below and you’ll get a chance to ride along on their rush.

Up next for Katie Porter, the co-writing team of Carrie Lofty and Lorelie Brown:
Now that the first three of the RT BookReviews 4½ Star Top Pick “Vegas Top Guns” series have been released, readers can anticipate the final two installments, HARD WAY and BARE KNUCKLE, in 2013.
November brings the m/m Christmas-themed CAME UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR, described as “masterful” by Publishers Weekly. In January, LEAD AND FOLLOW will launch the five-part “Club Devant” series of erotic multi-partner romances set in a hot New York City burlesque club.

A man with handcuffs. A woman with a paddle. Both fly F-16s.
Daughter of a world-famous motocross champion, and head-on competitor with three brothers, Captain Leah "Princess" Girardi was born with a need for speed. No one tells her what to do, especially not men with chauvinistic "girls can't be fighter pilots" attitudes.
That's what ended her brief relationship with Captain Mike "Strap Happy" Templeton. Now, six years later, he’s been assigned to her squadron, and whoa damn, he’s filled out nicely. Plus he’s cultivated a Zen-like chill factor that pulls at her hormones.
Even after four tours, Mike's the new kid in the 64th Aggressor Squadron. That's not the only thing new. Since he last saw Leah, he's learned a few things about himself. A female who outranks him still makes his teeth grind, but in the bedroom he craves the rush of pain inflicted by an adoring, powerful woman.
Their reunion is an explosive revelation. Leah is the beautiful mistress he's been searching for, and she takes to her new role like a natural. But Leah's aware one thing hasn't changed. Loving him is still an all-or-nothing proposition. She's not sure her reckless streak is wide enough to risk her career--and her heart.
Warning: This book contains a hot stud on his knees, a woman wielding a paddle, and filthy-gorgeous femdom sex. Also: dangerous rock climbing, two amazing motorcycles and some bad tequila.

Since I workout relatively on a regular basis, I listen to a lot of dance/club music. My newest favorite song (shockingly) is Morning Sun by Rock Mafia feat. Miley Cyrus *gasp!* I know. But she doesn't even sound like herself. And the song is exactly what I need to get moving on the treadmill.

Hi everyone! I'm the Carrie Lofty half of Katie Porter, and Lorelie play list looks a lot different than mine! I preferred "Heavy in Your Arms" by Florence + the Machine (as a pair, we collectively claim her awesomeness for all time), plus "Salvation" by the Scanners and "Don't Forget to Breathe" by Bitter:Sweet. Obscure inspiration for the win!
ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone for stopping by, and good luck the drawing1
Oh, and my current favorite song is "Blood" by In This Moment. Go...blow your ears out. It's a shouty good time.
