The secrets he knows about her could get him killed.

Transferring to the New Orleans Police Department, Detective Silas MacCreedy has a hidden agenda: to secure his clan’s place once again in the Shifter hierarchy. What he didn’t count on was stumbling upon a sexy assassin who could shred his best intentions and lead him into a dangerous dance that threatens to engage his heart.

But the ones he doesn’t know . . .

Monica Fraser knows just how to make a man beg—for his life. But she has no clue how to fight her attraction to the fiercely intense detective who seems determined to get in her way, both professionally and intimately.

. . . could kill them both.

When emotional attachments to the past and an unexpected glimpse of a different future have her questioning her deadly purpose, Nica must discover the truth about her secret abilities in order to free herself from the forces that control her. But that freedom comes with a price—trusting those she’s been ordered to eliminate.
When 2 strangers meet one night they can't deny the immediate attraction to one another. Silas McCreedy knows that Nica is dangerous, but he can't the inner voice within him telling him that Nica is his mate. Nica knows that Silas is different from others and drops her guard a few times when he is around. She can't afford to make mistakes when she has a secret to protect. Once Silas learns Nica's secret, she knows what she has to do, and that's kill him. But she can't bring herself to do that. There is a constant push and pull between these two characters throughout the book. You just don't know if they are on each others side or if they are enemies. Silas is also conducting undercover work to also get information for not only his job as a cop, but to get close to a local crime boss. Silas has a score to settle and get revenge against this person. He doesn't need any distractions and tries to keep his distance from Nica, but they seem to keep running into each other.

I had a difficult time getting into this book. The storyline just didn't grab my attention enough for me to be truly interested in what was going on. The introduction of characters throughout the book confused me at times and I found myself getting a little confused as to who did what.  I did like the relationship between the two main characters as they fought their own feelings about one another. Nica's character appealed to me the most as I learned more about her character while her secrets were unraveled.  I didn't feel a connection with Silas at all and I'm kind of disappointing in that since I tend to enjoy male characters.  Overall I'm not sure if this series is for me since I just couldn't get into the storyline.

I'm giving Hunter of Shadows a rating of:

  1. Is this a series with new characters in each book? As I really disliked the first one in the series.
