Guest Post: Books That Take You By Surprise by Mamakitty

Surprise!

You know when you’re reading a book, and it’s really good (like on the edge of your seat good) and keeps you turning the pages, and suddenly knocks you off of your chair because something comes out at you from left field? Yeah, I had that happen to me recently.

Picture me here; sitting in my reading nook in my living room (it’s a nice corner of my black leather couch with my lamp right next to it so I can see perfectly). I’ve got my earbuds in my ears, because I’m listening to an audiobook and trying desperately to ignore the kid shows on the television. Got the picture in your head? Good.

The book that made us weep!

So I’d been listening to the Chicagoland Vampire series nonstop for days on end, and was finally listening to Hard Bitten, which I had extremely high expectations of – especially with regards to Ethan and Merit’s relationship. I’d been on the edge of my seat with them. Will they or won’t they? We all know they’re in love. We all know they belong together. We’ve all watched with baited breath as they’ve verbally (and physically) sparred and developed both their friendship and their relationship. So of course, this was the book that Chloe Neill just had to get them together, right?

From the very beginning of Hard Bitten, I couldn’t stop listening (couldn’t put the book down). Not even kidding. I ignored studying, listened while cooking, cleaning, put it on speaker while showering, and tried to figure out a way to listen while I was in class, but since it was the middle of the summer I couldn’t logically get away with wearing a hoodie so I could have my earbuds in without attracting suspicion. Needless to say, I was obsessed with this book because it was that good.

So, towards the end of the book, when The Big Event (you know the one I’m talking about) happened, I literally fell off of the couch. I’m totally serious.
I. Fell. Off. The. Couch.

Then I called my girl Bells. And cried. I might’ve screamed too, but I won’t admit to it. You’ll have to check my twitter stream for proof of that. It’s not often that a book will totally take me by surprise like that, but when it does, I react strongly. Obviously. 

When is the last time a book took you by surprise? Which book was it? And how did you react?

Thank you for having me hang out today my PIC!
MamaKitty

Folks she really did call me and was very emotional.  I myself had the same reaction when reading the book so I'm glad that I could be there for her. It's amazing how much books touch our lives.  We are truly connected to them.  Love ya PIC!

I'll have my review of Drink Deep up on the blog later today.  Make sure you stop by and read it!

Check out my PIC's blog!

  1. I can't think of one that really shocked me. The best I can come up with is the ending of NOCTURNE, not your standard ending.
