Some secrets are dangerous. This Secret is deadly.
For Secret McQueen, her life feels like the punch line for a terrible joke. Abandoned at birth by her werewolf mother, hired as a teen by the vampire council of New York City to kill rogues, Secret is a part of both worlds, but belongs to neither. At twenty-two, she has carved out as close to a normal life as a bounty hunter can.

When an enemy from her past returns with her death on his mind, she is forced to call on every ounce of her mixed heritage to save herself—and everyone else in the city she calls home. As if the fate of the world wasn’t enough to deal with, there’s Lucas Rain, King of the East Coast werewolves, who seems to believe he and Secret are fated to be together. Too bad Secret also feels a connection with Desmond, Lucas’s second-in-command…
Secret McQueen's name is very fitting to what she is.  She is somewhat of an anomaly.  Her mother was a werewolf that was bitten by her father that was turned into a vampire.  So she's half vamp, half werewolf.  She doesn't really care for either side to be honest, but because of this unique nature, she has had to keep what she really is secret.  Only a few people know what she is.  Here grandmother that raised her after she was abandoned by her mother, and Holden , a vampire that is her liaison to the vampire council.  She is employed by the council to kill vampires that have become rogues.  She's good at her job and her name is well known in not only the vampire but werewolf community as well.  Secret soon finds herself giving into the werewolf part of her when she happens to be in the same vicinity of werewolf King Lucas Rain.  The werewolf in her wants him and when Lucas realizes that Secret doesn't know a whole lot about the werewolf culture, he takes it upon himself to educate her in their ways.  The connection she has with him leads them to believe that they are supposed to be together.  But it's not as easy as it seems because Secret soon finds herself developing a connection someone else.  Desmond, who is like a brother to Lucas as well as next in line to the throne.  Sounds like Secret has her hands full doesn't it?

I enjoyed Secret's character a lot because of the inner strength that she has had to rely on.  Her upbringing was not an easy one and as an adult she still has many issues to deal with because of what she is. The vampire part of her is always an issue since she is unable to go out during the day and she must consume blood as well in order to keep her strength and healing abilities.  I thought the story really got interesting as the werewolf part of her began to awaken.  She still has so much to learn about this part of herself and Secret feels that she can easily be a part of this life.  She feels at ease with Lucas and begins a blossoming friendship with Desmond.  I have to say that I like both of these guys and can understand why Secret feels the way that she does.  They are good to her and take her in as one of their own.  They are both gorgeous, sexy, and want to protect her. It can't get any better than that and I can't wait to see exactly how this part of the storyline is going to play out.  On the flip side of the coin, Secret also feels a connection to Holden.  There is a small attraction thing going on between the two of them and I like how Holden also feels the need to protect her and the secret of what she is.  I would love to see Secret give into the vampire side of herself as well because Holden seems as if he was meant for her as well.  This book has a trifecta of great guys and Secret is very lucky to have them all on her side.

I am giving Something Secret This Way Comes a rating of:
Photobucket

I love nothing more than the start of an exciting new series and I am happy to have found another.  I would easily recommend this book to anyone that loves UF/PNR and that likes humor thrown into the storyline. , With lots of action, excitement, and great characters, it was hard to put this book down!  Secret McQueen's life is an interesting one and I can't wait to read what happens in this exciting new world.
