The Change that devastated the earth didn't destroy Theo Waxnicki. It made him something more than human eternally young, eternally beautiful ... but not immortal.

When he dies on a mission against the Strangers, he is lost to the darkness...until a miracle lady brings him back.

Born during the apocalyptic storms and earthquakes that left the world in ruins, Selena has dedicated her life to easing the pain of others. But Theo is the first in her care to actually survive. Responding to Selena's tender touch, Theo starts to live again, to feel and desire again.

But joined in a world of terrors, the secrets they can never share make them targets. And love could be the ultimate betrayal.

Night Betrayed is book 4 in the Envy chronicles and it focuses on Theo Waxnicki's story. Theo is a survivor of The change, an apocalyptic event that has changed the earth and killed most of the population. Theo and his twin brother Lou survived, but there is something different about Theo. He has a metal chip embedded into his spine due to the explosion and he hasn't aged since The Change. Even though he is really 78 years old, he looks like he is 30. Selena sees him as a young man when she brings him back to life after he dies from injuries after escaping The Order. The group responsible for the change of the Earth. Selena has the gift to help people on the brink of death pass to the other side. She is there for Theo when his time comes, but discovers that he is different from others when she is able to bring him back to life. Once Theo recuperates, he cannot deny that he is attracted to Selena, but can not tell her his secret yet. Selena is 41 and cannot understand why a younger man would be attracted to her. But after dealing with so much death and destruction, she decides to give in to the attraction and realizes that life is too short and even though Theo may seem younger than her, he is just what she needs right now. Theo is patient and understanding when it comes to her gift and that is something that she has had a hard time with in the past.

We also get to see some of the other characters that were in the earlier books of this series and learn more about what The Order is up to. Their evil schemes are revealed once the characters make it back to their main location. It's at this point that Selena truly begins to understand why she has the gift that she does. With Theo by her side understanding what needs to be done, she truly becomes an important character of the series and I hope that she is featured more in future.

I'm giving Night Betrayed 3.5 Bells!

If you're a fan of this series, you will enjoy Night Betrayed because it contains lots of action and the characters that we have grown to love. If you haven't started reading the series, I highly recommend that you start at the beginning of the series and work your way through the books. There is so much information in the previous books that is needed to understand what is happening in Night Betrayed. It's well worth it and cannot wait to read more of this world that Joss Ware has written.

  1. This was my first Joss Ware book and I thought it was just ok. Are the earlier books better?
